Answers to my questions
I've been having a fat couple of fat weeks. Probably because I've been eating badly and I'm actually getting fat, but that's beside the point (also, Julie? Shut up). That happens occasionally.

By 'occasionally', I mean 'every time I have some big important party to go to and really really really need to look good'.

So I took this quiz, 'What's your magic number for weight loss?' Why not, right? La-di-da. How is my metabolism? How much do I want to lose? How much do I crave starchy foods? I have no idea, I just ticked boxes more or less at random to see what would happen, and if there was any useful information waiting at the end of the line, uh, quiz.

Well, firstly, no. If I eat 1200 calories per day I will at some point lose weight. No shit, Sherlock. But what surprised me the most was what happened in the 'waiting room', you know, 'please hold on for five seconds while the results are being processed and we sneak in an advertisement, because we are Americans, and that's what we do'. The advertisement was for Twix Caramel Cookie Bars.

I wonder how many of those will fit into my 1200-calorie day.

I decided that I would be allowed to not shut up if I actually took the quiz (and that's why I will be late for school btw).

So I took it. I should be on the 1400-calorie diet, so they say. It doesn't really look all that different from what I'm already eating, except that I tend to binge-eat fruit every other afternoon at work instead of buying it myself and eating regularly. And that I don't cook my own food at lunch, so it's basically more sandwiches.

But what is the deal with the fun-food stuff? According to this quiz thing, you can have either chips, chocolate or beer EVERY DAY. Whenever I feel like I've been having unhealthy days, I try to cut down on those foods, maybe even limit them completely with the exception of weekends. I'm not sure I'm happy with a diet plan that encourages you to skip cous-cous with your chicken stir-fry, and then have that Twix Caramel Cookie Bar.

I know! It's good that we're allowed treats once in a while, but firstly, the whole 'if you skip the mayonnaise you may have and orange, if you ask very nicely' is just crazy - women get cravings, we know that, but giving overweight chocoholics a guilt, free low-calorie chocolate alternative, and insist they have it every day? I'm guessing the addiction won't go away any time soon. And they WILL end up missing the 'real stuff'. Then what?

You know, I'm tempted to blog about something like this myself: the whole low-calory, low-carb blah, blah, blah. I still believe no chocolate/chips/ice-cream except on weekends, walk whenever possible, make whatever you can from scratch, and keep giving yourself fruit, vegetables and water is a much better alternative. I thought the whole calorie-counting and weight-watching thing was SO passé. Scientifically, calories and weight are not as important indicators of health as people seem to believe.

I think you should do that. Unlike me, you can actually set an example when it comes to this kind of thing - you're workin' that fruit thang! Or something. Anyway: Do it! I'll be the first to comment.

Right. Or 'Roger' - do you say that? You know, when you're saving the world? I can picture people in the future making tributes to Roger - that must've been one heroic kind of guy!

One of the really bad things about unlocking writer's block (and thereby enabling world-saving) is that I suddenly want to write about EVERYTHING. Will probably spend most of Saturday blogging if someone doesn't stop me. But at least the article (big project o'doom as Amber would say) is going well.

Good on you. Now stop commenting and get it done so you can go to work and get tipsy tonight!

But I don't WANT to eat like a pig! I've been broke, meaning Mr. A has been buying all the food - can you say 'malnutrition'?

But thank you for the information. I never knew there was any connection there.
